Myofascial Release

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach®

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach® is a slow, deliberate therapy that works on the body’s fascial system. Fascia is the completely interconnected “webbing” that surrounds and interfaces with every single cell in the body – including muscle, nerve, blood, and brain cells. Restrictions in the fascia compress the cells in our body with an estimated force of up to 2,000 lbs per square inch. The fascia’s interconnectedness is why a restriction in one area of the body can pull and cause symptoms in another different area.

This therapy looks to find and release restrictions or holding patterns in the fascial web to allow the body to return to its optimal, natural state. Deirdre has trained directly with John F. Barnes in his Myofascial Release and Myofascial Unwinding approach.

Myofascial Release may help with the following conditions:

Back Pain – Chronic Pain – Disc Problems – Headaches – Migraines – Fibromyalgia – Jaw Pain /TMJ Dysfunction – Pelvic Pain – Pelvic Floor Dysfunction – Painful Scars – Scoliosis – Sciatica – Whiplash – Sports Injuries – Adhesions – Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – Neck Pain – Neurological Dysfunction – Chronic Fatigue Syndrome – Myofascial Pain Syndrome – Endometriosis

Prenatal and Postpartum Myofascial Release

During pregnancy your body undergoes tremendous changes over a relatively short period of time. Gently releasing your fascia can help to release restrictions and make your pregnancy more comfortable and enjoyable.

MFR prenatally can help with:

– relieving pain throughout the body, sciatica type symptoms, relieving anxiety, releasing traumatic experiences from previous pregnancies and deliveries, helping breech babies to turn, baby’s emotional state in utero.

MFR postpartum can help with:

– emotional recovery, bringing the pelvis back into alignment if required, releasing restrictions associated with scars from C-section deliveries, relieving pain and tightness in neck, shoulders, arms and back from holding the baby or nursing the baby.

Pediatric Myofascial Release

As a baby grows in the womb their fascia can become restricted due to their position, stresses the mother is undergoing, the location of the umbilical cord and even due to the restrictions that the mother has present in her body. The experience of being born can also be stressful for babies, no matter what type of birth.

Infants receiving Barnes MFR have the opportunity to unwind their birth experience and release stress and restrictions. Infants and children don’t have the same level of “filters” that adults have and so this allows them to often respond quickly to treatment.

Toddlers and older children can benefit from Barnes MFR too. Children receive many bumps, knocks and injuries as they are growing up that can cause restrictions to form in the fascia.

MFR in Infants and Children may help with:

– torticollis, feeding issues, reflux, colic, constipation, bed-wetting, misaligned teeth and many other issues.
